He shot the first music video with an iPhone 4.

He said: In an effort to release the first iPhone 4 music video, my good friend and musician Steve Failows [AKA flakjakt] and I collaborated over a period of less than a week to create the first iPhone 4 music video.

In 2 days (and up until an hour before the shoot), Steve wrote a new track specifically for this video and we loosely conceptualized for those 2 days in an effort to be first out of the gates with an iPhone 4 music vid. Our main goal, however, was simply to make a good music video, no matter what the camera.

Of course, I knew there would be obvious technical hurdles, so everything was structured to be shot to take advantage of the camera’s strong points. Lack of lighting, aperture and shutter speed control were all taken into consideration when planning. And because I knew a lot of the camerawork would be locked off (something I rarely do), a lot of the cinematic vision was going to be dependent on how I cut everything together in post.

So, post production you ask? Seriously crazy. Going into it the goal was to create a video with a unique creative vision; something quirky, entertaining and yet, intimate and sincere.

I transcoded all footage to ProRes422. Once ingested into FCP I realized how much footage I had. I won’t say how much, but let’s just say we were crazy to shoot in 9 locations in 1 day! Overall the footage was surprisingly crisp (aside from low-light locations). I typically color correct in After Effects, but given the editing rush, I did everything out of Final Cut Pro. Although the result was a bit rushed and rough, we ended up embracing the look and think that it helps translate emotion well onscreen.

Hopefully people can forget it was shot on the iPhone and enjoy it for its content.

Enjoy!

HD Video recording in full 1080p

Sometimes life takes you by surprise. You’re reading a best seller on your iPad waiting for the morning train when you spy a gifted performer on the platform. Or you’re browsing the web on the couch when your dog trots by wearing your daughter’s tutu. The iSight camera on the new iPad lets you capture all these unpredictable, beautiful, and hilarious moments. In 1080p HD, no less. And with automatic video stabilization, your recording is free of bumps and shakes. Which is a big advantage when you’re laughing uncontrollably.

“It’s all in the lenses.”
Megapixels matter. But the quality of a photo is determined by other things, too — like the camera’s optics, image signal processor, and software. The iSight camera uses advanced optics to give you the best picture possible. With an ƒ/2.4 aperture and a five-element lens, it captures light efficiently to produce a sharper overall image. And the hybrid infrared filter — typically reserved for expensive SLR cameras — keeps out harmful IR light for more accurate, uniform colors.

The filmmaker Allen Bradley said: “I didn’t want to use external audio recorder and a pro-editing software, everything you see in this movie was made with my iPhone 4 (except by the ending). I just want to demonstrate the people how easy is to shoot and edit a short film using an smartphone with no crew people, no script, no lights, and $80 U.S dollars of budget used for the actor’s meals and gas. This short film was shot in one day and edited in iMovie mobile App. So now on there are no more excuses to don’t shoot my next film projects. Remember, the best camera is the one you have at the moment, and most of the time is the one you have in your pocket (your smartphone)”.

The filmmaker Stefan Saldivia said: “I filmed this short documentary in December 2010 while I was visiting some countries in Central America. In Guatemala, I met a young man called Marvin Romero who made a living as a Michael Jackson impersonator in the streets of Guatemala City. I took several pictures of him with my camera phone and I gave him a good tip for his entertainment. Later on that day, in my hotel room, I was reviewing the pictures I had taken that day and at the same time I was glancing at a Guatemalan newspaper called “Prensa Libre”. There was an article about an open call for an iPhone Film Festival that caught my attention. Suddenly, an idea came to shoot a short video of the Michael Jackson impersonator I had met earlier that day. The next day, I went back to look for him, found him and shot a short documentary. This was a great opportunity to show people that creativity as no boundaries, even in poverty. It took me about 3 hours to shoot and a $20.00 tip that made my actor very happy because he had to work about 3 days to make similar wages. Besides, he was happy to be the star of the video and will use it as a promotional tool. “.
